Bradley P. Koffel

Ohio Criminal Defense Lawyer

Bradley P. Koffel, 45, is a criminal defense attorney who practices in most of the state courts in Ohio. He is listed in The Best Lawyers In America which represents the top 1% of the lawyers in the country. Mr. Koffel has been named one of the best Criminal Defense Lawyers in Ohio by Ohio Super Lawyers®. And, he has received the highest rating for professional ability and integrity by the nationally-respected Martindale-Hubbell legal directory.

He has been selected by his peers on multiple occasions as one of the 50 best lawyers in Columbus, where there are over 7,000 practicing attorneys. In 2013, Mr. Koffel was also named a "Top 100 Trial Lawyer in America" by The National Trial Lawyers. This is an invitation-only organization composed of the premier trial lawyers in each state.

After graduating from Miami University (1990) and Capital Law School (1993), Mr. Koffel began his career as a solo practitioner right out of law school handling all types of criminal cases. Over the past 20 years, his private practice grew into a 6-lawyer boutique criminal law firm consisting of a full time in-house private investigator, an alcohol-drug treatment specialist, and two trusted paralegals that have been with him for most of his career.

A typical client of Mr. Koffel has had minimal or no prior contact with the Courts, and is an adult or juvenile facing the most serious situation he or she has ever encountered. Mr. Koffel prides himself on giving each one his personal attention, and limits his caseload to meet this goal. If a conviction to some of the charges is inevitable, Mr. Koffel presents creative sentencing proposals to the Court which emphasizes treatment, not incarceration.

Mr. Koffel' s typical caseload includes allegations of vehicular homicide / assault; corporate embezzlement; forgery & fraud; DUI/OVI; domestic violence; felony assault; drug trafficking, drug possession, marijuana cultivation and illicit drug manufacturing; bank, regulatory agency or government fraud; sex abuse allegations; computer crimes including importuning, disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, and possession of illegal media; all juvenile crime; and, any other type of crime in Ohio in which Mr. Koffel likes the client and wants to represent the him or her.

"I am very pleased with how things turned out. Second, and much more importantly, I really do appreciate everything you do well above and beyond the legal aspects of things." -R.F.

His practice before Regulatory Boards focuses on the suspension of professional licenses and other disciplinary proceedings against lawyers, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and chiropractors. Mr. Koffel puts a special emphasis in his criminal cases on drug and alcohol addiction treatment, expert witnesses, creative sentencing proposals, and the representation of professionals. He has handled many high-profile cases, including Ohio's first texting aggravated vehicular homicide jury trial, the felony assault trial of one of the country's leading LASIK eye surgeons; criminal investigations of Ohio State University athletes; a numerous high profile members of the community who's cases remained totally confidential and were never discovered by the media. Based on these experiences, Mr. Koffel knows the "unwritten" rules of dealing with the media and reporters if publicity is a foregone conclusion, although his preference is to keep the client out of the spotlight.

However, the overwhelming majority of Mr. Koffel' s clients are folks who never, in their wildest dreams, ever thought they would have to go to court and stand in front of a judge. They come from stable families, have jobs, and, for whatever reason, find themselves being investigated by the government.

Mr. Koffel frequently is asked to address continuing legal education programs for criminal defense lawyers as well as numerous requests to speak at The Columbus Police Department Training Academy and Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy to cadets as well as seasoned police officers coming in for more specialized training.

Currently, Mr. Koffel is on the Judicial Screening Committee for the Columbus Bar Association and the Criminal Law Jury Instruction Sub-Committee for The Ohio State Bar Association.

It is no secret that the single most important factor in determining the outcome is often the expertise of the lawyer who represents him or her. Please feel free to call Mr. Koffel at his office in Columbus at 614-884-1100 or simply send him an e-mail him at brad@koffellaw.com.
