Bradley P. Koffel, 45, is a criminal defense attorney who practices in most of the state courts in Ohio. After graduating from Miami University (1990) and Capital Law School (1993), Mr. Koffel began his career as a solo practitioner right out of law school handling all types of criminal cases. Over the past 20 years, his private practice grew into a 6-lawyer boutique criminal law firm consisting of a full time in-house private investigator, an alcohol-drug treatment specialist, and two trusted paralegals that have been with him for most of his career.
A typical client of Mr. Koffel has had minimal or no prior contact with the Courts, and is an adult or juvenile facing the most serious situation he or she has ever encountered. Mr. Koffel prides himself on giving each one his personal attention, and limits his caseload to meet this goal. If a conviction to some of the charges is inevitable, Mr. Koffel presents creative sentencing proposals to the Court which emphasizes treatment, not incarceration.

His practice before Regulatory Boards focuses on the suspension of professional licenses and other disciplinary proceedings against lawyers, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and chiropractors. Mr. Koffel puts a special emphasis in his criminal cases on drug and alcohol addiction treatment, expert witnesses, creative sentencing proposals, and the representation of professionals. He has handled many high-profile cases, including Ohio's first texting aggravated vehicular homicide jury trial, the felony assault trial of one of the country's leading LASIK eye surgeons; criminal investigations of Ohio State University athletes; a numerous high profile members of the community who's cases remained totally confidential and were never discovered by the media. Based on these experiences, Mr. Koffel knows the "unwritten" rules of dealing with the media and reporters if publicity is a foregone conclusion, although his preference is to keep the client out of the spotlight.
However, the overwhelming majority of Mr. Koffel' s clients are folks who never, in their wildest dreams, ever thought they would have to go to court and stand in front of a judge. They come from stable families, have jobs, and, for whatever reason, find themselves being investigated by the government.
Mr. Koffel frequently is asked to address continuing legal education programs for criminal defense lawyers as well as numerous requests to speak at The Columbus Police Department Training Academy and Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy to cadets as well as seasoned police officers coming in for more specialized training.
Currently, Mr. Koffel is on the Judicial Screening Committee for the Columbus Bar Association and the Criminal Law Jury Instruction Sub-Committee for The Ohio State Bar Association.
