Backyard firework displays are limited in Ohio

Most of us associate the 4^th of July with barbeques, parades and fireworks.  Most states, 39 to be specific, allow for consumer fireworks.  However, Ohio is in the minority.  Under Ohio law, Ohio residents are only permitted to enjoy sparkers among other novelties such as snaps, glow snakes and smoke bombs.  For most communities these can be sold and used anywhere in the state unless specific local laws prevent the use of these items.

Individuals caught using any other type of fireworks could be charged with a misdemeanor of the 1^st degree, punishable of up to a $1,000 fine and 6 months in jail.  If you want to avoid criminal liability steer clear of firecrackers, bottle rockets, roman candles, fountains and exhibitor fireworks such as aerial shells that are fired from mortars.
